Is it just me, or is there a proliferation of illegal mufflers? It's a growing nuisance even here in our small town. The corner muffler shop owner is getting rich hacking off brand new, factory mufflers and replacing them with the loudest, biggest, most ridiculous pipes I've even seen.
It's the "LOOK-AT-ME" syndrome being perpetrated by our growing, low-brow population and the police are just looking the other way. These morons, driving everything from Harleys to Hondas think it's some kind of status symbol to make noise. Oh yeah, that's quite an accomplishment. Like we don't have enough noise in our life already. (Hell, I swear I think our fire department blows their sirens on the way BACK from a fire!)
Don't get me wrong, I love cars. I like a little rumble coming from a high performance V-8, like the new Corvettes (or the old ones for that matter). And I can understand the teenage loser, saving up for a new Flowmaster for his four cylinder Ford Ranger, thinking that ANY means of being noticed is better than nothing. If his parents had any sense (or any consideration for their neighbors), they would explain to junior that his ride doesn't sound good, it's just loud. Actually, it sounds like a worn out farm tractor. Juvenile desperation to be cool.
Ok, my point is this: if this needless noise bothers you, call your city councilman, mayor or police chief and complain. If they tell you, "Come to the council meeting and bring it up", don't buy it. Tell him/her that the law is already on the books and you just want it enforced without becoming a target for retribution from these mindless morons making needless noise. Go on, call them. Until enough people complain, it will only get worse. Once your community loses control of these little qualities of life, bigger crime will follow.

wow... and old people like yourself should drive at all...a few ppl would still b alive.u complain about noice from a stupid muffler while YOU ppl confuse gad pedal wit brake pedal once a week or more and kill someone so with all due respect as a 24yo owner of a car with a semi loud muffler and a loud stereo system i dont think loud cars have anythng 2 do wit the increased crime level like you said in the beggining of your post its radiculous ehh that would be it.have a good day.try not to run anybody over :)
Let's look at the facts here: a. You're old. b. Your hearing aid is up too high. c. You live in an area so infested by inbreeding that there's no major highways for those truckers to stay on. They do not rattle your windows on purpose, that's naturally how loud they are. Ever see those gigantic pipes on the sides or backs of the cab? THAT'S THE MUFFLER. You talk about how awesome an 8 shooter sounds yet you're complaining about it at the same time. I mod my car, yes I speed, but you want to know something? I know which pedal is STOP and which one's GO. You? You probably don't even know what that confounded knobby thingy is do you? Sound like the sterotypical racist old snow white. I tailgate people like you just to get a rise out of them, to show just how little it takes to get you angry. I'm tired of my taxes supporting worthless old skinbags like you.
with all respect more than half the people out there put on open exhausts and PERFORMANCE mufflers more for the hp gain than the sound. i think it is pointless to put a loud exhaust on 4 cylinders and on some 6. but you cant start blaming crime and drugs and all the problems on a cars exhaust i agree a noisy neighborhood is crap. but noise doasnt mean crime or drugs. i have a loud exhaust on my truck and a big stereo i always play by the rule if its 11pm and im in a residential neighborhood ill turn down the stereo. but exhaust i cant do anything about that. i see you on some your points it just makes me mad when people blame cars and video games and tv and movies for all the problems in the world they never think that maybe they are the ones to blame (not saying ur to blame) i just think everyone should just RELAX! its just a car just being loud some kid loves it let him have his fun. i dont know how many people OLD people i kno who have loud cars some even have loud stereos. just think of all the spectrums before u judge people. i mean im 19 yrs old. i drive a loud truck and have a loud stereo and am by no means a thug or do drugs or any crime of that matter i have a D.A.R.E license plate and dontae money to the law enforcment memorial fund every year. unless you consider that a thug.

Randomj... besides being ignorant, your just dead wrong. That's NOT how trucks naturally sound. A tractor trailer with factory exhausts makes very little noise, even when "jake-braking".

The world is in the shape it is in today NOT because of the particular behavior you describe but rather because of the “I matter; the rest of you don’t” attitude that underlies such behavior and manifests itself as boys in men’s bodies compen(i)sate with loud mufflers. A man is, by definition, a male adult. An adult is, by definition, someone who is mature enough to ask himself or herself, “Is my behavior at this point in time and space bothering or inconveniencing other people?” and who realizes that his or her list of responsibilities is at LEAST as long as his or her list of rights.

Its a shame that Skippy and pals haven't a clue that they are on PUBLIC highways in public spaces so NO - you have no right to "have your fun". The mark of civilization is how civilized = considerate one citizen is to another. If you want to blow your eardrums out in yr basement bedroom, go for it. But keep your toys out of my ear space. Its assault. It harms & hurts others while making nothing better. That's what you aspire to do & spend with your free time and money? Be a societal pariah? Nice ambitions, ah, dude.
